Here is short list of some cool apps and tools that i think you will find useful.
wireguard
An app that allows you to make your own VPN between devices. Easy to setup, secure and with excellent compatibility across platforms.
syncthing
An app that will automatically sync/backup folders across multiple machines and servers.
samba
Software for sharing files, disks and access to filesystems from one machine to another. This is especially useful with WireGuard for creating your own NAS accessible from anywhere.
ssh and autossh
With ssh you can securely connect devices across the web, stream information from one device to some port of another device.
Example: I stream website interface from my raspberry pi to this site.
cron
Simple to use tool where you can schedule execution of your scripts and programs. Has a lot of timing options.
